Club History

Founded over 30 years ago, Brian Blair trained some of Gosport’s finest boxers, the Booker brothers, Tony Dore, Richard & Darren Blair, Dave French and Billy O’Neil to name a few.

In 2000, Brian’s son Darren took over as head coach and has since raised fund’s that enabled the club to move from a sports hall in St Vincent College to there own premises at the Sanderson Centre.

2007 saw Gosport Boxer Sam Couzens turn professional. Sam has gone on to box in the final of Prizefighter on Sky Sports. Well done Sam!

In 2008 our female boxers had a good season, Kelly O’Neil was the finalist of the Women’s ABA’s and Amanda Holloway won Gold at Haringey Box Cup.

We have a brilliant team of boxers, Ricky Pipe was Southern Counties Junior ABA champion in 2009 and won Gold at Haringey in 2011. Paris Dunford won the Junior Female ABA championship in 2011. We have many more juniors and seniors that box or are up and coming, and ready to travel to the various matches and competitions held locally and further afield.

2011 saw us move to our new gym in Cranbourne Road, near Asda in Gosport. We have two rings (and one portable/temporary ring), 31 punch bags, lots of space to train and male & female changing rooms.

As for recreational boxers, as a club we couldn’t ask for more dedication and hard work than the men, women and children show at our training sessions. So, if you are looking to get fit and have fun we are open to all ages (6+), gender and abilities. Come down and give boxing a try!

As a non profit making sports club, we wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the continuous time and effort given by our ABA qualified coaches; Darren Blair, Steve Pipe, Mike Alderson, Dave French, Dan Gerlack, Amanda Holloway, Rod Williams, Lee Thomson and Rachel Kelleher. As well as all those who help behind the scenes and with admin and paperwork.

We encourage parents to help out on our junior sessions and hope to have some of them take the next coaching course. We are always in need of coaches, so even if you haven’t boxed before and you’d like to know more please contact us.

For the future, we will continue to run ‘Boxing Award’ play schemes in the school holidays and will be working in conjunction with Gosport Borough Councils sports department to develop this further.

Fareport training organization’s learners attend our club weekly and we are very proud of their achievements so far…keep up the good work!

We are also hoping to take our boxing sessions to after school clubs in Gosport and Fareham so if you think this would be of value to a school near you, please contact us for more information.
